Most Rev. Shorot Francis Gomes, D.D. was born on December 15, 1965 at Hasnabad village under Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, Nawabganj, Dhaka. His parents are the late Augustine Modhu Gomes and Mrs. Thekla Gomes. Bishop Shorot has two sisters. He was ordained as a priest on May 31, 1991. He was elected as auxiliary bishop of Dhaka Archdiocese on February 8, 2016 and consecrated on April 2, 2016. He has served the Dhaka Archdiocese as a bishop for five years. He was elected as the second Bishop of Sylhet Catholic Diocese on May 12, 2021 by His Holiness Pope Francis. We, the Fathers of the Congregation of Holy Cross in Bangladesh, congratulate Bishop Shorot as the successor of His Excellency Bejoy N. D’Cruze, OMI, Archbishop of Dhaka. We wish him all success in his new responsibilities in the Diocese of Sylhet.
