Most Rev. Lawrence Subrato Howlader, CSC, was born on September 11, 1965 at Bogra road, Munsir Garaj, in Barishal City. His parents are the late Stephen Lolit Howlader and Mrs. Teresa Howlader. He is the fourth son among five brothers. He was received as a novice in the Holy Cross Novitiate, Barishal on August 01, 1987 and pronounced his first vows on August 2, 1988. He made his perpetual vows on August 6, 1993, and following year he was ordained deacon in the month of February 1994. He was ordained a priest on December 31, 1994. After his higher studies, while he was novice master in the Holy Cross Novitiate, Barishal, he was elect as Auxiliary Bishop of Chittagong Diocese on May 7, 2009 and consecrated as Auxiliary Bishop on July 3, 2009. Later on he was elected the first Bishop of the new Barishal Diocese on December 29, 2015 and his installation program took place on January 29, 2016. He is now elected as the second Archbishop of Chottagram Archdiocese on February 19, 2021, by His Holiness Pope Francis. He succeeds the late Most Rev. Moses M. Costa, CSC.
