Justice and Peace

  • 1994 – The Bishops of Bangladesh decided to establish Commission for Justice and Peace. Fr. Richard W. Timm, CSC was its first Convener and then it’s Executive Secretary. This commission first defined the main injustices in the country and ascertained their causes, created awareness of social issues and Christian solutions, registered protests and suggested ways to aid the victims of injustices and oppression. They involved all the parishes to work against injustices and to make people aware of them. Thus all the Holy Cross Priests who worked in parishes and other places, took active part in the Justice and Peace work.
Fr. Timm worked as the Commission’s Executive Secretary until 1994. After him Fr. Lawrence Noresh Das, CSC worked as the Secretary for some years. In fact Holy Cross Congregation has special projects to work for Justice and Peace in the whole country.
